Putting on my thinking cap

2010 August 30
by Birdie

I’m trying to sort out my online life. I have my personal site at Birdie Jaworski Dot Com, which is basically a writer’s resume of sorts. I have Camp Strange, my collection of stories from across my blogging years. And this little chit chat blog. I also have Wild Western Civilization Dot Com, my stories from the tiny town I just left.

I want to blog again, want to tell funny stories about life along the Rio Grande, about life in the city. One of the reasons – besides the BIG reason, time – that I stopped blogging was that too many locals were reading my stuff. I felt that my hands were tied; I couldn’t tell any of the good stuff, and because I have been working as the publicist for said town, I couldn’t tell anything other than uplifting and positive stories. And my boys are much older than when I began, and they aren’t thrilled to be Subjects A and B of my ongoing saga.

I’m thinking of starting some kind of niche blog, something that could potentially earn a little money through ebooks. Any ideas? A banjo blog? A guide to Albuquerque nightlife blog? (Soooo not me but would be super funny to experience and write.) A river blog? A “hiking the southwest” blog? A parrot blog? Seems like everything has been done, and done better than I could ever do, eh?

Should I delete all of my sites, make a better resume site with a few select stories?  I have no idea. I want to do some kind of daily online diary while I work on my novel. I plan on pitching a weekly column to one of the alternative rags in town as well. If I am to call myself a Writer, I need to sort all of this out, so that folks can find my work, so that I can offer a calling card, so that I don’t feel so scattered and torn into tiny pieces. I lost my writer’s mind along the way and I want to reconnect it with my brain.

Anyone have any ideas? Beauty Dish was great – I had a blast telling all of my Avon adventures! I miss those days. I could start an entirely new blog (after deciding what to do with all of the old ones) and use another name so that locals can’t find me, that’s another idea.

Hi guys,

Check out Fort Union Drive-In – I put this site together for our local historic drive-in theatre, one of only 14 remaining working drive-ins in the country. This weekend, the Rolling Road Show hits town! Click on the poster above to see what we get to experience this Sunday!

This weekend is the beginning of Las Vegas Heritage Week. Check that out, too! (Yeah, another website I did for the local goings on!)

I will report back here soon with all kinds of news! Lots going on in the world of Birds.

Love to all!!!

About to _________ fill in the blank….

maybe I'll cut off my hair as a symbol of my new start

Hey, my three loyal readers!

By September 15th, I will be writing full-time. I’m moving to the Big City. More, much more, on this later. But right now I have packing to do, have money stuff to sort out, have work to wrap, have school stuff to organize. I have a buyer for my home, and I’m using some of the return on my property sale to fund myself for a period of time. So that I may write. Write. Yeah. I can’t wait.

~~~~ but first, i shall catch up on sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep ~~~~
Write? Right?
“Write without pay until somebody offers to pay”
~ Mark Twain
The other night, thanks to sleep deprivation brought on by a recovering son and a multitude of semi-legal fireworks, including the rat-a-tat-tat of several young drunk cowboys’ rifles into the night sky, I had a strange idea for a book. The idea reached deep into my past, to something whimsical and childlike that I remembered. But the twist my adult mind handed me made me rise from bed at 1 a.m. to write down the idea. I’m going to write this book. Don’t know when. Don’t know how. But I will write it. And yeah, I have to finish The Parrot Detective first.
I want to write more than anything.
I’m desperately searching for a job, perhaps a job that involves copywriting and writing press releases, but that isn’t the same as sitting down to your own novel. If you know of any company looking for a great publicist, please let me know!
Notes from the Operating Room
2010 July 2
13 post surgery - yes, it looks like *I* am the one on drugs with the bad camera work here!
The hospital.
Mr. 13 had Round 2 of surgery at UMN’s Children’s Hospital, this time on both legs. He has a long, hot summer ahead, with two leg casts and a wheelchair as his new bestest friend. I will write more on this a little later, but wanted to drop a wee little note to let everyone know we are alive.
Stever  – long time commenter and much longer time real-life friend – dropped by my house the other day – after traveling from sunny So Cal via Canyon de Chelly and Chaco Culture -  and got to wish 13 a happy recovery in person!  He brought 13 a bunch of Sci-Fi movies to enjoy during his bed rest. I was a crummy hostess, thanks to some serious sleep deprivation. Stever and Ramses hit it off – the African grey parrot doesn’t normally take so well to new folks – and bonded over piñon. We were only able to spend a few hours catching up before Stever had to hit the road home. I can’t believe I didn’t take a single photo! That’s exhaustion, folks!
I’ve been working on a story over the past month. It’s about a television show, Glee, and about 13′s accident, and about the way we shift our perceptions surrounding different people, different events. I hope to finish and share it with you soon.
Please leave a get well message for Mr. 13 in comments!
My recorded story, Honeybees, has been picked up by WAMC in NY, for their nationally syndicated show about women’s issues, “51%.” My story will be heard on episode #1094. Check it out! I will post a link to the podcast after the show runs.
Artists
I mentioned the art guide project in my prior post – my deadline is a week from today, and I’m working a good 18 hours a day on the project.
Any music suggestions to keep my mind from going nuts while I create one artist’s ad after another?
